Physiotherapy on the Gold Coast
01The discipline
Assessment of Movement and Function
Physiotherapy addresses how the body moves and what's interfering with it, whether that's injury, post-surgical restriction or a problem that has built up gradually. At Nuevo Medical, physiotherapy on the Gold Coast is delivered within the same centre as the GPs and specialists who refer into it, and alongside onsite imaging where a scan is needed to clarify the picture. Treatment typically combines hands-on assessment and technique with prescribed exercise. Where longer-term conditioning is also required, our physiotherapists work alongside exercise physiology rather than duplicating it. Call 0417 426 825 to enquire.
02What's addressed
What Physiotherapy Addresses
The scope covers a range of musculoskeletal and movement-related presentations.
- 01
Acute injury
Assessment and treatment following a strain, sprain or other recent injury. Early assessment establishes what's involved and what loading is appropriate.
- 02
Post-surgical rehabilitation
Structured recovery following orthopaedic or other surgery. Progression follows the timeframes and restrictions set by the operating surgeon.
- 03
Persistent musculoskeletal problems
Conditions that have continued over months, including back, neck and joint pain. Assessment looks at contributing factors beyond the painful site.
- 04
Movement and function
Restriction in range, strength or control affecting daily activity or work. Testing establishes what's actually limited rather than what feels limited.
03First appointment
What Happens at Your First Physiotherapy Appointment
The first appointment is largely assessment. Your physiotherapist will ask when the problem started, what makes it better or worse, what treatment has been tried, and how it's affecting work, sleep and daily activity. Physical examination follows, testing movement, strength, joint function and any specific structures the history points towards. Bringing imaging reports, surgical notes or referral correspondence lets your physiotherapist work from the clinical detail rather than a summary, which matters particularly after surgery where specific restrictions apply. From the assessment, they'll explain what the examination found, what treatment they propose and how many sessions they anticipate before reassessing. Exercises given between sessions are demonstrated in the appointment, and progress is reviewed rather than assumed.

FAQs
No referral is needed to book privately with a physiotherapist. A referral is required for Medicare-funded arrangements and for certain compensable schemes.
That depends on what's being treated and the starting point, so it's estimated at the initial assessment and revised at review rather than fixed in advance. Reassessment is generally scheduled rather than left open.
Not always. Treatment commonly combines manual technique with prescribed exercise, and the balance between them depends on the condition and what the assessment finds.
