Cardiac Rehabilitation Program on the Gold Coast
01The program
Supervised Exercise After a Cardiac Event
Returning to physical activity after a cardiac event or procedure is a clinical process with defined precautions, not something to work out independently. Our cardiac rehabilitation program on the Gold Coast is delivered at Nuevo Medical by exercise physiologists working under the precautions your cardiologist has set, in a supervised facility within the same building as the cardiology suite. That proximity matters here more than on most programs, because the referring cardiologist is available if something needs reviewing. Specialist follow-up continues through post-procedure cardiac review. Call 0417 426 825 to enquire about referral.
02The structure
How the Program Is Structured
Cardiac rehabilitation follows a defined structure with clinical oversight throughout.
- 01
Entry assessment
Review of the cardiologist's precautions, discharge documentation and current capacity. Nothing begins before this is complete.
- 02
Supervised sessions
Exercise conducted in the rehabilitation facility with practitioners present throughout. Monitoring during sessions is part of the program rather than optional.
- 03
Graded progression
Workload increases according to the assessment and your cardiologist's parameters. Progression is determined clinically rather than by how sessions feel.
- 04
Education and review
Discussion of activity, risk factors and what to report. Progress is reviewed with your referring cardiologist at agreed points.
03Documentation
What Documentation the Program Needs From Your Cardiologist
This program depends more heavily on clinical documentation than any other we run, because the exercise prescription has to sit within specific parameters. Your exercise physiologist needs the referral, the discharge summary, the procedure report where one exists, recent cardiac imaging and the current medication list. These set out what occurred, what the treating team specified and what limits apply. Having these sent ahead or brought to the assessment prevents the first appointment being spent gathering them. Your practitioner reviews all of it, assesses current capacity within the stated limits, and sets out the proposed structure. Sessions are monitored throughout, and any change in symptoms is reported to your cardiologist rather than managed within the allied health team.

Exercise after a cardiac event is prescribed within specific clinical limits, and supervision allows monitoring during sessions and adjustment where needed. The precautions are set by the treating cardiologist rather than the program.
Timing is specified by the treating cardiologist or hospital team and varies with what occurred. It's generally set out in the discharge documentation rather than following a standard interval.
